The US Navy sent the world's largest aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford worth more than $13 billion to Turkey
The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) continues its journey through Europe. The world's largest aircraft carrier has arrived in Turkey.
Here's What We Know
The aircraft carrier previously participated in joint exercises with Turkish landing ships Anadolu, Goksu, Gediz, Imbat, Meltem and Burakreis, as well as Turkish Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets. The event took place in the Mediterranean Sea. The ship has now arrived at the QTerminals port in Antalya. There are 4,500 crew members on board.
Turkey was the fourth stop for the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78). Previously, the world's largest aircraft carrier visited Norway, Croatia and Greece. It should be noted that US aircraft carriers have not been to a Scandinavian country since 1958.
The American embassy said that the US Navy regularly conducts exercises with Turkey. USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) arrived in the country a few days after USS Mount Whitney and USS Normandy visited Istanbul and Aksaz respectively.
USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is the newest, largest and most modern aircraft carrier in service with the U.S. Navy. It is the first ship of the Ford class. Unfortunately, frequent repairs have caused the cost of the aircraft carrier to exceed $13 billion.
