It's official: Craig Mazin has announced that production on the second season of "The Last of Us" will begin soon

The Last of Us season two is finally ready to be developed. Showrunner Craig Mazin shared the news on Threads, noting that after reaching a tentative agreement to end the writers' strike, he's excited to get back to work on season two.

Here's What We Know

"Very proud of the WGA and its membership, and excited to get back to work on The Last of Us season 2. The strike has not yet been officially lifted, but the second it is, we will spring into action!". - Mazin wrote.

Earlier, Neil Druckmann, also shared that the script for the entire second season has already been developed.

But, in order to start work on the continuation of the series based on the popular video game, it is necessary to wait not only for the end of the strike of the writers, but also the settlement of the current strike SAG-AFTRA, so that some of the actors who play in "The Last of Us" (including Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal) could return to their roles.

The second season is set to adapt the plot of "The Last of Us Part 2." Events will unfold several years after the end of the first part, focusing on Joel and Ellie after the tragic events at the Santa Barbara hospital.

The story will also feature new characters, including some who have been introduced before. Plus, fans of the game know that Abby will play an important role in the story. We know that the casting for this role has already been finalised, and there might be an official announcement soon.

When We Can Expect It

There's no official information yet about the start of filming, much less a release date for the second season.
