Olympic Games in 2018 in Pyeongchang attacked hackers
According to the publication Reuters, the International Olympic Committee recognized the attack of hackers on the server of the Olympic Games.
What happened
On February 9, the day of the opening of the Winter Olympics in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang, the site fell down, and then the network services of the event. After that, the main press center had problems with broadcasting, and visitors to the games that had electronic tickets could not print them. On that day, no one announced the cyber attack, and the technical service of the Olympics was able to eliminate the problems only 15 hours after the incident. But now it is known that this happened because of the hacking of servers by hackers.
Who is guilty
Now, the IOC Cybersecurity Department and the Ministry of Defense of South Korea are looking for perpetrators of the hacking. According to one version, this was done by Russian hackers who took revenge on the International Olympic Committee for the elimination of the Russian national team from participating in the competition. Representatives of the IOC have not yet given any official comments on this or other options, so this version so far only rumors.
