Nokia does not know what to do with "smart" gadgets for health
Nokia is looking for strategic alternatives for the Digital Health unit, which appeared after the takeover of the French device manufacturer for fitness and health Withings. Hopes for a new direction have not materialized, and the future of the business is in question.
Everything is bad?
In June 2017 Withings became Nokia Health, and the devices began to produce under the Finnish brand. Today the line includes fitness bracelets, smart watches, smart scales, thermometers, tonometers and gadgets for sleep monitoring . But the company did not achieve much success. Last fall, Nokia wrote off 141 million euros in connection with the purchase of Withings (which cost the Finns 170 million euros).
So far, nothing has been decided, but Digital Health can comprehend the fate of the OZO VR camera unit, closed in October last year. Nokia also announced a reduction of up to 425 jobs in Finland, without specifying which departments it will affect.
