The US has sent the world's largest aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford with five Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and the missile cruiser USS Normandy to Israel
The US Department of Defence has dispatched the world's largest aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) to Israel. The strike group is heading to the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Here's What We Know
The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) with 5,000 sailors travelled to the region accompanied by U.S. warships. The strike group includes five Arleigh Burke-class destroyers (USS Roosevelt, USS Carney, USS Ramage, USS McFaul, USS Thomas Hudner) the missile cruiser USS Normandy.
The aircraft wing of USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) includes F/A-18F deck fighters, E-2D Hawkeye long-range radar detection aircraft and EG-18 Growler electronic warfare aircraft. Also aboard the aircraft carrier are MH-60R/S Seahawk helicopters.
The large-scale deployment underscores U.S. concern over the conflict. The Israeli government has officially declared war on Hamas and has given the green light for significant military steps in response to the terrorists.
The White House will quickly provide the Israel Defence Forces with additional equipment and resources, including ammunition. The first tranche of aid will arrive in the coming days. This was announced by US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin.
