Huawei is working on its own voice assistant - HiAssistant
Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri are the leading voice assistants on the market. Besides them, there are also less popular Samsung Bixby and Microsoft Cortana. It seems that now to this list still join the assistant of Huawei.
What is known
Bloomberg recently wrote that Huawei is working on its own voice assistant for the Chinese market. And now developers of the XDA Developers resource found it mentioned in the firmware EMUI 8.1 (based on Android 8.1 Oreo).
In smartphones, Huawei already has a similar function in its home market - HiVoice. Thanks to it, users could perform simple tasks, for example, make calls using voice. But the complex it was not enough. Therefore, Huawei decided to create a full-fledged voice assistant, which will work on the basis of Natural Language Understanding (NLU). This will allow the smartphone to recognize unstructured offers.
According to the information from the firmware HiAssistant will work only on devices with EMUI 8.1 and Kirin 970 processors. It has access to almost all settings of the smartphone. In addition, the assistant is able to recognize objects, find routes, book tickets and send payments between banks in China.
In the dry residue
HiAssistant demonstrates that it has the potential to compete with large voice assistants in the market. But on the other hand, Huawei has not yet officially introduced it and there is no information whether it will appear outside of China.
