Intel has initiated the AI PC Acceleration Programme to encourage developers to create applications with artificial intelligence features for personal computers.
Here's What We Know
The programme is focused on leveraging the capabilities of the new Intel Core Ultra mobile chips with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) optimised for AI tasks. These processors will go on sale on 14 December.
As part of the initiative, Intel is providing developers with AI tools and marketing support. More than 100 companies have already joined the programme, including Audacity, Adobe, BlackMagic, Webex and Zoom.
Intel says the use of specialised neural processing units will improve the performance and energy efficiency of AI applications compared to using only a CPU or graphics accelerator. The company also expects applications created under the programme to run seamlessly on competing chips.
Intel has previously run similar incentive programmes to encourage AI-enabled software development for servers and data centres. The company expects AI units to eventually become a standard component of PC processors.
