Apple plans to invest $1bn annually to create products based on generative artificial intelligence, insider Mark Gurman has revealed.

Here's What We Know

The spending comes as the company tries to catch up with some competitors that have already introduced new developments in this area, notably Google, Microsoft and Amazon.

Apple uses AI in its products, but has yet to release its own chatbot. So far, the technology has been used to enhance photos and auto-correct text.

So far, the company has developed its own Ajax big language model and Apple's GPT chatbot, which are not yet integrated into products. AI is expected to be implemented in Siri, Messages and Apple Music. In the latter case, the technology will generate playlists, as Spotify does with OpenAI.

Apple is also considering using AI in Xcode to support app developers.
