Kuwait has received four European Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets under a contract worth $9bn

Kuwait continues to receive European fourth-generation Eurofighter Typhoon fighters. Recently, another batch of aircraft arrived in the country.

Here's What We Know

The purchase of the Eurofighter Typhoon was part of the co-operation between Kuwait and Italy, which also involves joint air force exercises. The European aircraft will complement the fighter fleet, which consists of the US F/A-18 Hornet and French Mirage F1s.

The Kuwaiti Air Force has ordered 28 fighter jets. Four of the aircraft arrived in the country this week, increasing the fleet to 13 units. The Eurofighter Typhoon is equipped with a Mauser BK27 cannon, electronic warfare, various types of missiles and can reach supersonic speeds (over 343 metres per second). The aircraft has a radar with an active phased antenna array.

Kuwait decided to purchase the Eurofighter Typhoon in the middle of the last decade. In April 2016, the country officially signed an agreement with Leonardo, which at the time was called Finmeccanica. The contract with a total value of $9bn was the largest for the Italian company.
