The US Marine Corps has tested the MADIS Mk 1 air defence system with Stinger missiles
Work continues in the US on the new MADIS (Marine Air Defence Integrated System) Mk 1 mobile air defence system. The Marine Corps recently conducted tests.
Here's What We Know
The military service is developing the MADIS system in response to emerging security threats. Late last month, the project reached a key milestone when integration testing took place at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona.
MADIS Mk 1 demonstrated its capabilities during the September test under the supervision of a specialised test unit. The system is ready for future operational requirements.
The weapon is mounted on a JLTV chassis. The system can destroy airborne threats using different means of defeat. In particular, Stinger surface-to-air missiles and a 300mm automatic cannon or 12.7mm Minigun machine gun.
