Tech tycoon Elon Musk will be one of the notable attendees at a two-day AI security summit organised by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Here's What We Know
Musk and Sunak will have a live conversation on the billionaire's X social network. This will lend credibility to an event that many world leaders have declined to attend.
Relatively few of Sunak's foreign counterparts are expected to attend, with most sending ministers or officials. Among those who have confirmed their arrival are the head of the European Commission and the Italian prime minister.
The presence of Musk, who recently launched his own AI project, will raise the status of the summit. Sunak envisions the event should put Britain at the forefront of AI regulation.
Flashback
The summit will take place on 1-2 November and will focus on discussing existential risks from AI. Sunak announced the event in the summer of 2023 after concerns about the lack of oversight of advanced model development.
Despite the looming date, the guest list has not been finalised. Britain has also invited China to engage the country in a dialogue on AI.
