Russians allegedly created a long-range cruise missile for the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet
The Russians report the creation of a new long-range cruise missile. It is designed for the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter.
Here's What We Know
There is no information about the new missile at the moment. It is only reported that it has a range comparable to the missiles used by the Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers.
The new missile has reduced dimensions. This step had to be taken because of the need to place the projectile in the weapons compartment, rather than under the wings. It was possible to reduce the size by using a small twin-circuit turbojet engine.
Typically, long-range air-launched cruise missiles are projectiles that can destroy targets within a radius of 600 kilometres or more. The strategic bombers mentioned above can launch a projectile at a range of more than 5,000 km/h.
