The announcement of Huawei P20 and P20 Pro: a triple 40-megapixel camera to the elder, a "fringe" for everyone
At the presentation in Paris, Huawei introduced a new generation of its flagships - the standard Huawei P20 and the top P20 Pro with triple Leica camera.
Chilka is the season hit
Both smartphones received a glass case and a screen with a small cut-out for the front camera. Huawei P20 is equipped with a 5.8-inch IPS-panel with a resolution of 2240x1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.7: 9, and thanks to the white subpixel in the RGBW scheme, the brightness reaches 770 cd / m2. The older Huawei P20 Pro got a 6.1-inch OLED display with the same QHD + resolution.
The heart of smartphones was the company's eight-core chipset Kirin 970 with a frequency of 2.4 GHz and neural processor NPU to speed up tasks related to artificial intelligence. The Huawei P20 has 4 GB of RAM and the Pro version has 6 GB. Built-in storage and there and there on 128 GB. Under the gadget screen is a button with a built-in fingerprint scanner.

The main Leica cameras in smartphones are different. Let's start with the triple in Huawei P20 Pro. The upper 8-megapixel module with f / 2.4 aperture and optical stabilization provides 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom. Below it is a module with a large 40-megapixel sensor measuring 1 / 1.7 inches and optics f / 1.8. Users can take pictures at full resolution, but by default the camera takes 10-megapixel imagery, combining four pixels into one (like the Nokia Lumia 1020). This function is called Light Fusion. The third module with a monochrome 20-megapixel sensor with f / 1.6 optics.
According to the manufacturer, the sensitivity of the triple camera Huawei P20 Pro reaches 102 400 units of ISO, and in almost total darkness you can get good photos. There is also ultra-slow shooting at speeds up to 960 frames per second with HD resolution. The 40-megapixel module does not have optical stabilization, but it uses electronic with artificial intelligence.
On the back of the Huawei P20 is a dual system consisting of a 12-megapixel module with a color sensor and f / 1.8 optics, as well as a second monochrome 20-megapixel camera with f / 1.6 optics. Optical zoom is not, but left shooting at 960 frames per second.

The front 24-megapixel smartphone camera supports the function of Light Fusion and can be used to unlock the smartphone on the face.
What else
Huawei P20 is protected only from splashes, and the Pro version is protected against dust and water by the IP67 standard. Inside the case of the standard flagship there is a battery with a capacity of 3400 mAh, and a large battery with 4000 mAh. Fast charging is supported. There is NFC, but the 3.5-mm headphone jack was removed. The thickness of smartphones does not exceed 8 mm. The colors of Huawei is not stingy, a special emphasis is placed on the "twilight" version with a gradient. Not all options may appear.
Updated : in new products the company refused from a slot for memory cards. 128 GB on board is, of course, good, but we somehow got used to at least a hybrid slot in smartphones.
When and how much?
Sales of smartphones will start in the second quarter, Huawei P20 will cost 650 euros - noticeably cheaper than Samsung Galaxy S9 (850 euros). Top Huawei P20 Pro with triple camera will cost 900 euros, which is 50 euros lower than the European price of the Galaxy S9 +.
With the equipment of other Chinese manufacturers, it will be more difficult to compete. If presented on the eve of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S costs from 530 euros, then the upcoming Mi 7 will be even more affordable. Plus, not everyone will like the design in the style of the iPhone X from the new products of Huawei.
