iFixit took apart the new MacBook Pro M3 and explained why the case is darker and collects fewer fingerprints
The experts at iFixit have disassembled the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 processors and explained what's so unusual about the Space Black finish of the case.
Here's What's New About It
The Space Black colouring is one of the new features this year. It is a rich black colour of the case and an aesthetic matte surface, which, as Apple assures, collects fewer fingerprints.
Specialists iFixit checked this and confirmed - the laptop case is indeed not as marred as its predecessors. For this purpose, the manufacturer used anodising - an electrochemical process in which an oxide layer is "grown" on the surface of the aluminium sheet. Simply put, tiny hollow bulges. So, Apple has managed to make the anodised surface of the Space Black colour more uneven on a microscopic level.
As a result, more light is reflected from the surface, it appears darker, and dirt is less visible.
