Taiwanese scientists showed a prototype smartphone with a folding screen
Taiwan Research Institute of Industrial Technology published a video clip with a folding smartphone. The device is working, ringing and even equipped with AMOLED-screen.
What was shown
Judging by the video, in the unfolded state the device looks like a 7-8-inch tablet. The bend is not in the middle, but slightly shifted to the side. Because of this, the two screens have different diagonals. Probably this is done so that the part of the screen where the calls, notifications, SMS, etc. are displayed is folded. The design of the folding smartphone leaves much to be desired, but this is only a test sample, so further it will in theory receive an adequate appearance.
What was told
According to representatives of the institute, the smartphone and its parts are not afraid of folds and are able to withstand 200 thousand folds. Scientists have calculated that on average the user will open and close the smartphone 150 times a day. Based on this figure, the safety margin of the panels is enough for 4 years of active work.
What to expect
What will happen to the prototype next when it enters the commercial market and appears on it in principle is still unknown. As an option, the Taiwan Institute will bring the device to the mind and sell its development to some well-known manufacturer.
