"Smart" translator Microsoft learned to work without the Internet
In 2016, Microsoft Translator connected to artificial intelligence, and the quality of translation has increased significantly. Until now, the work of the algorithms of machine learning required a connection to the network, and in the new version of the mobile client, this feature will be available even in offline mode.
What did they tell?
For the first time the "smart" translation of the text directly on the device was shown in the flagships of Huawei Mate 10 and Honor 10 View, but they have a neural NPU processor to speed up the AI. Now the developers have adapted the system to work without a special chip. At the start, it will be supported for Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Portuguese and Thai.
Where does it work?
There are no special requirements for hardware stuffing, but there is a suspicion that there is simply nowhere to turn around the advanced algorithms on older smartphones and budget employees. The company also recognizes that online translation can be a little more accurate. The difference is not very noticeable, but compared to the old version, the quality of offline translation has gone far ahead.
Microsoft has already started updating the Android application, and the version of the translator for iOS is waiting for approval in the App Store. Cherry on the cake - new offline dictionaries, which are about half the size.
