Xiaomi is testing the beta version of Android Oreo for the Mi Box 3
The Xiaomi Mi Box 3 set-top box will soon be two years old, but the company is not in a hurry to send her to retire and is preparing a major update of Android TV based on Oreo. Members of the beta program have already received a test assembly.
What is known?
Xiaomi has not enjoyed Mi Box 3 users for a long time with new firmware. Initially, the prefix came with the version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for TVs, later the company released a beta version of the update to Nougat, but before the final release it did not happen. If the developers again do not stop halfway, the device will switch immediately from the "marshmallow" to Android 8.0 Oreo.
As the user Reddit under the nickname dragnu5, after the update slightly increased overall performance, and YouTube began to load the video normally up to 4K-resolution (on the previous beta there were problems). I only had to reconnect the wireless remote control to get a "fallen off" microphone. Google Assistant is, to activate the assistant just press the button on the remote.
The preliminary version of the firmware is still available to a small number of users who have signed up for the beta test. Registration in the program ended last year. Xiaomi showed TV boxes with the updated interface of Android TV at the MWC 2018 exhibition, but then the company did not say anything about the update itself or the timing:
With Android TV, Google Assistant is already integrated on Xiaomi set-top boxes. Now we have announced that we will be working with Google Apps to get all the capabilities of Google's Xiaomi smartphones. Do not look forward to an amazing user experience! pic.twitter.com/GEUpo8fLE8

When you should wait for the final version of the firmware - it is unknown.
