OpenAI and global news publisher Axel Springer have struck a deal that will allow ChatGPT to aggregate news stories from publications like Politico and Business Insider.

Here's What We Know

The agreement will provide articles from political and business media outlets to Axel Springer's holding company as data to train OpenAI's AI language models. Specifically, the content will be used to improve GPT-4, which is at the heart of ChatGPT.

When answering questions, ChatGPT will be able to produce short summaries of Axel Springer material with links to the original articles. This will expand the chatbot's awareness of current events and news in politics and business.

Earlier this year, OpenAI had already entered into a similar licensing agreement with the Associated Press to use the news agency's archives in training AI models. The new deal with Axel Springer is the next step in that direction.
