Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+: Galaxy AI, the return of the Exynos processor, LTPO displays and prices starting at $800
In addition to the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung unveiled the more affordable Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ flagships at today's launch event.
Here's What We Know
Externally, the smartphones are very similar to their predecessors, and many specifications remained the same. What is new? First of all, the dimensions. Samsung Galaxy S24 is the most compact model in the lineup with a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with FHD+ resolution. The Galaxy S24+ has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, but with QHD+ resolution, bringing it closer to the Ultra model. Also, finally both models got adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz - previously it was only on the top flagship. In addition, the peak brightness figure has been raised to 2,600 nits.
In most markets, including Europe and India, the smartphones will arrive with Samsung's Exynos 2400 processor, while in the US, Canada and China, it will come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. To improve performance and cooling for demanding tasks, Samsung has installed an evaporation chamber 1.5 times larger on the Galaxy S24 and 1.6 times larger on the Galaxy S24+. The base version of the Galaxy S24+ now packs 12GB of RAM, while the regular Galaxy S24 is left with 8GB.
Along with the size, the battery capacity has also increased. The Galaxy S24 has a 4,000 mAh battery with 25W charging power. In turn, the Galaxy S24+ has a 4900 mAh battery with 45W charging. Both models support 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare technology.
Samsung's main focus during the presentation was on the Galaxy AI artificial intelligence system. Features with AI will help improve the quality of shooting and, in general, make interaction with the smartphone more convenient. Developed in collaboration with Google, the Circle to Search feature allows you to control searches using gestures. Chat Assist translates conversations in real time. Ambient Color Tone for display - uses cameras to adjust screen colours and white balance based on ambient lighting conditions. Artificial Intelligence-based Photo Assist provides editing suggestions. Tone Changing comes in handy for text rewriting. And Live Translate provides synchronised call translation.
The cameras remain the same. It's a 12 MP front with f/2.2 aperture and a triple main camera, which includes a 50 MP sensor (f/1.8) with optical image stabilisation, a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12 MP ultra-wide lens with a 120 degree viewing angle.
The cherry on the cake was the news that the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will get 7 generations of OS updates and 7 years of security patches. These phones will be supported even into the 2030s!
