Donnie Yen will star in Universal's reboot of the classic '70s TV series "Kung Fu"
Universal Pictures and 87North are set to reshoot the classic ABC series "Kung Fu," starring David Carradine. The new "Kung Fu" will star Donnie Yen, known for "Ip Man", "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "John Wick: Chapter 4".
Here's What We Know
Universal have stated that the reboot will be made in a film format rather than a TV series. The original series had three seasons, ran from 1972 to 1975 and won three Emmy Awards.
The creator of the original "Kung Fu" show, Ed Spielman, will executive produce the reboot. Kelly McCormick, David Leitch and Guy Danella will serve as producers. Stephen Chin wrote the screenplay for the film, while Leitch, who is known for his work on "Deadpool" and "Bullet Train," is currently considering the role of director.
-"Donnie Yen is both an immensely talented actor and an action film legend, and it is a privilege to have a true martial arts master leading this global film" Litch said in a statement. "With Donnie in place as our leading man, it will be a thrill to collaborate with him, our creative partners, and Universal in reimagining this beloved story for the big screen.".
By the way, the previous performer in the role of Carradine was also skilled in martial arts.
Here's What The Movie Is About
The plot revolves around Kwai Cheng, a Shaolin monk who is forced to flee China after he kills the nephew of the Chinese emperor. His journey leads to America, where he hopes to find his brother and a new home while escaping punishment. As he wanders through the Wild West, he constantly encounters bandits and outlaws who oppress and hurt the weak, and assassins chasing his head. Against them he uses Kung Fu, an art that proves extremely effective in this land full of danger.
When We Can Expect It
