Well-known insider, journalist and analyst Tom Henderson shared his vision on the changes that await the gaming industry with the advent of the era of next-generation consoles.
Here's What We Know
New PlayStation and Xbox devices are expected to be released between 2026 and 2028.
Henderson has analysed current trends and believes that:
- developers will abandon releasing physical copies of games and move exclusively to digital sales;
- the standard price of new big-budget games will rise to $100 for a basic edition;
- Sony and Microsoft will release full-fledged handheld consoles that can natively run games;
- smaller companies will focus even less on experimentation and concentrate entirely on popular franchises;
- temporary or permanent exclusives will become more plentiful, and users across platforms will receive unique bonuses.
Well, Henderson's predictions look quite reasonable, logical and realistic. Gamers will have to wait until 2028 and see for themselves in which direction the gaming industry will develop.
