Google will launch production of Pixel smartphones in India next quarter
Back last year, Google had said that it would start manufacturing its smartphones in India. It looks like the launch of the production lines will happen soon.
Here's What We Know
The Nikkei edition, citing informed sources, reports that the company will prepare production lines for the flagship Pixel 8 Pro devices in the coming weeks. And mass production will start in the second quarter - in April-June.
The move will help Google diversify its supply chain outside China, the report said.
The company plans to ship more than 10 million Pixel phones this year. Apart from the Pixel 8 Pro, the regular Pixel 8 will also be manufactured in India.
Exactly how many devices Google plans to produce in India and whether the phones will be sold domestically or exported is still unknown.
By the way, Apple is also investing hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure for the production of smartphones and other gadgets in India and plans to actively increase the assembly of devices there in the coming years.
