Lots of surprises ahead: Warner Bros. head promised a global announcement of projects in the new DC film universe
Warner Bros. executive David Zaslav has revealed that fans will learn about DC Studios' plans for the next decade much sooner than planned.
Here's What We Know
It's been over a year since the first projects for the new DC universe were unveiled by James Gunn and Peter Safran. We've heard about Superman: Legacy, the Booster Gold series, the Swamp Thing film and a couple of other projects, but they say this is just the beginning of the first chapter of the DC Universe called Gods and Monsters.
It was previously announced that the first two phases of the DC film universe would develop over eight to ten years. But David Zaslav's remarks imply that fans will be able to see a list of series and film that are part of these phases as early as 2024.
-"I've had a glimpse into what James and Peter are doing, and it really does serve as an exciting indicator of where the new DC is headed under their leadership. There'll be more you'll hear from them in the months ahead...We'll have James and Peter take you through in the next few months a full spectrum of what they see over the next 10 years." Zaslav said.
Gunn has previously described how he sees the new DC universe and even compared it to Marvel:
"A lot of people think it's going to be Marvel 2.0, and definitely I learned a lot of stuff at Marvel. I think that we have a lot of differences. We are telling a big, huge, central story that is like Marvel, except for, I think that we're a lot more planned out than Marvel from the beginning because we've gotten a group of writers together to work that story out completely. But we're also creating a universe that is like Star Wars, where there's different times, different places, different things, or Game of Thrones, where characters are a little bit more morally complex."
Even back then, the scope of work on the new DCU seemed incredible, complex and long, and it's all the more amazing that many of the plans will be revealed to us in the coming months.
In the meantime, we're just as eager as you are for updates, as a reminder that the first project in the new DCU will be "Creature Commandos," which has yet to receive a release date, but will definitely be released before "Superman: Legacy" is scheduled for 11 July 2025.
