Lenovo laptop with Snapdragon X Elite processor appeared on Geekbench
Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon X Elite processor in October 2023 for future Windows laptops. This chip features a dedicated Qualcomm Orion processor that promises to outperform the competition. However, the first tests of Lenovo laptop with this chip showed disappointing results.
Here's What We Know
Lenovo laptop codenamed Lenovo 83ED scored 1,628 and 11,392 points in single-core and multi-core tests Geekbench 6.2 respectively. This is significantly lower than the scores that Qualcomm has seen on its tests (2,777/14,056 at 23W and 2,966/15,239 at 80W). It is not known how much power this chip is running at, but it has a configuration of 8+4 cores.
A possible reason for this low performance is the unstable clock speed, which indicates that the chip is a pre-production sample and needs to be optimised. In separate tests where the chip was tested individually, it performed better, scoring 2,574 and 12,562 in single and multi-core tests.
The Lenovo laptop also features an unknown Adreno GPU, which also performed poorly in Geekbench OpenCL tests, scoring just 10 points. The laptop has 32GB of RAM and runs on Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview.
The Snapdragon X Elite has potential for Windows laptops, but Qualcomm needs to work on optimisation before the chip is ready for release.
