Google Pixel devices are starting to get a fresh March security update with a new Feature Drop

Google has started rolling out the Pixel Feature Drop update for Pixel devices and along with it comes Android security patches from March 2024.

Here's What We Know

Below are all the new features that are included in the March Pixel Feature Drop update:

  • Instagram support: After installing this update (and the latest version of Instagram), Pixel owners will be able to share 10-bit HDR videos to Instagram Reels, and upload and share Ultra HDR photos to the service.
  • Improved call screen: Google has added a new "hello" button that users can tap when listening to a call. As Google explains, this button allows the assistant to ask the caller to speak. Also, if you can't answer the screened call right away, the Assistant will tell the caller to wait a little longer.
  • Circleto Search on Pixel 7: The Circle to Search feature, which was first introduced on the Galaxy S24 lineup and then made available for the Pixel 8 lineup, is now available on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
  • Partial Screen Sharing: Partial ScreenSharing allows users to share one app at a time rather than the full screen when broadcasting, recording or showing off in a video call.
  • Quick Connect: Users can now access previously configured Bluetooth accessories on new phones or tablets. Quick connect will also help you connect your devices that were previously used with your account from the Connected Devices settings page.
  • Document markup: With Google Document Markup, users can add handwritten annotations to a document from an Android device using just a finger or stylus.

The March 2024 Pixel Feature Drop includes a patch for system vulnerabilities through 2024-03-05. The March 1 Android security patch includes solutions for 13 issues, while the March 5 patch includes solutions for 25 issues.

The table below lists the devices affected by the update, as well as the new features available to specific devices:

The Pixel Watch will also receive a software update that includes security fixes for the Pixel Watch.

Pixel users can check for the update in the device settings or download it manually from the official website. Users of other Android devices will also receive the security update soon depending on their manufacturer's policies.
