The action franchise isn't over: Lionsgate Studios announces development of another John Wick series
Despite the fact that assassin John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, seemed to have met his end in the events of the film "John Wick: Chapter 4", Lionsgate vice-chairman Michael Burns has confirmed that a series about the character is in development. According to his statement, the studio is looking for partners to distribute it to potential streaming services and TV channels.
Here's What We Know
"We have a great action franchise in the pipeline starring Keanu Reeves. I think it's going to be a TV series," Burns said at a recent Q&A at Morgan Stanley.
As a reminder, since its inception in 2014, the "John Wick" franchise has banked four feature films and a prequel series, "The Continental," with a "Ballerina" spin-off and a just-announced TV series currently in development.
Franchise creator, Chad Stahelski, has hinted that he is more involved in the development of the upcoming TV series compared to "The Continental" where he served as a producer. The director stated that the team has a lot of great ideas that he's passionate about and he's ready to realise any of them:
"I swear, all the ideas that our writing team is working on right now, I love. If you told me tomorrow that I had to do just one of them, I'd say: "Cool, man. That's a great way to spend the year." These are all cool ideas, and I have an idea of how I would implement each of them. That's the fun of it - to keep moving forward. And we're doing a TV show about John Wick, which, again, keeps my head working."
When We Can Expect It
The announced series has not yet been given a release date, with the upcoming spin-off "Ballerina" due out on 6 June 2025.
