Samsung Electronics Foundry, has received a boost to its custom chip business, thanks to positive reviews of its Exynos processor, which is installed in the Galaxy S24 smartphones. According to analysts, Google plans to use Samsung's 4-nanometre-class technology for its next Tensor G4 processor, which will be installed in the Pixel 9 smartphones scheduled for release in the second half of the year.

Details

According to whistleblower @Tech_Reve, citing Korean media, the Tensor G4 will use Samsung's latest 4-nanometre technology and an advanced packaging technology called FOWLP (Fan-Out Wafer-Level Packaging), which was used in the Exynos 2400.

FOWLP is an advanced technology that can improve semiconductor heat dissipation and improve energy efficiency and performance.

Google's decision to adopt Samsung's 4nm microprocessor was because the Exynos 2400, which is installed in parts of the Galaxy S24 series, has been well-received in the market.

Samsung is also working on the next generation Exynos processor, which will utilise Samsung's 3-nanometer process technology, which promises even greater speed improvements and lower power consumption.

Samsung is attracting the attention of not only Google but also other global tech giants such as Open AI, TenTorrent and Meta, which are looking for alternatives to the leader of the microchip maker, TSMC. Samsung has an advantage over TSMC in that it can offer a full range of services including chip design, manufacturing, memory and packaging. Samsung is expected to increase its share in the chip manufacturing market this year by improving its technology and increasing its production capacity.
