MSI's new firmware promises to lower temperatures for many Intel processors and motherboards

MSI has released a new BIOS update that can help owners of 12th, 13th, and 14th generation Intel processors keep their computers stable at low temperatures.

The new firmware allows you to disable Current Excursion Protection (CEP) on supported MSI motherboards, which results in lower thermal performance without significant impact on performance.

This update is especially relevant for owners of 14th Generation Intel Core processors, as well as newer models such as the Raptor Lake Refresh. When CEP (Current Excursion Protection) was enabled and could not be turned off, it meant that the processor limited its performance to avoid system instability in low voltage conditions. This limitation, known as throttling, resulted in a noticeable performance degradation as the processor was unable to operate at full capacity. Now, users can maintain performance levels and generate less heat by disabling this feature.
