Samsung faces threat of strike action from employees
According to reports, the union insists on a significant salary increase.
Here's What We Know
Although Samsung has offered a raise, the union's demands for the percentage differ significantly from the company's proposals. No agreement was reached during the first meeting between Samsung Electronics and the Samsung National Electronics Union held at the Central Labour Commission.
The Labour Commission will consider the arguments of both sides and the relevant facts before the main mediation session, where a settlement plan will be proposed. If the negotiations fail, the union will have the right to strike.
Samsung is proposing a 2.8% salary increase and has offered to extend the length of holidays and a number of social benefits. However, this does not meet the demands of the union, which insists on an 8.1% increase.
If the talks fail and the union is granted the right to strike, it will be the first time in 55 years that it has done so. Previously, it had the option to strike in 2022, but did not exercise it.
