Fitbit launches 'Walk Mate' programme to encourage user activity
For two months, the initiative will provide personalised notifications to encourage daily physical activity.
Here's What We Know
The Walk Mate app will send users daily notifications with individualised recommendations for planning walks. This is a joint initiative between Fitbit and Google aimed at researching and developing strategies to encourage physical activity.
Participants in the programme will be able to join Walk Mate through the Fitbit app and complete a survey that will help tailor recommendations to their needs. Users who typically take less than 8,000 steps per day will be targeted for the programme.
A previous study conducted by Fitbit and Google showed that only 12% of US adults maintain a normal metabolic state.
This study also revealed that Fitbit is preparing to introduce a new device that can monitor users' mental health using artificial intelligence. The new gadget uses machine learning to detect possible mental disorders such as depression, which can help users get timely support and assistance.
