YouTube becomes more interactive on TVs with a new update
Google has announced that it is updating the YouTube app for smart TVs with a redesigned interface to access interactive content and video-related information to offer users a better experience.
Here's What We Know
Previously, when you clicked on the title of a video, YouTube would open a card showing the number of likes and views, upload date, channel information, description and comment section. The app overlays the card on top of the video, which interferes with viewing. This is one of the reasons why people rarely access the card or interact with the video. Google wants to change that with the latest update.
With the new update, when you click on a video title, YouTube will shrink the video and show a card next to it, allowing you to watch the video without obstruction. Google made this change based on feedback from users who say they want to perform multiple tasks at once while watching content and be able to refer to the card (and interact with the video) without interrupting the video.
Google did not say whether the company is offering the latest change with an app update or a server-side change. The update is already available for some TVs running the Google TV operating system and is coming soon to other platforms, including Samsung's Tizen OS and LG's WebOS.
