Samsung may use Sony micro-OLED displays for its first virtual reality headset
At the Omdia Korea Display Conference 2024, a senior researcher from Omdia spoke about a new augmented reality (XR) headset from Samsung Electronics.
Here's What We Know
According to his speech, Samsung chose Sony micro-OLED display for its device instead of its own production.
The display from Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) will measure 1.3 inches and have a WRGB sub-pixel structure. This move reflects Samsung's strategic choice to embrace the quality and technological superiority of Sony's displays.
This decision was made late last year after Samsung conducted additional research and realised that Sony micro-OLED displays have advantages that can improve the quality of their products. It is known that Samsung initially planned to use displays from its own division, Samsung Display, for its upcoming XR headset.
The Samsung XR headset is expected to be released this year. This headset is expected to feature high quality visuals. Users will feel like they are really in the virtual world as the display will reproduce images with high definition, brightness, and colour depth.
