TikTok introduces "memorialized accounts" feature for accounts of deceased users
The TikTok platform, which has shown tremendous growth in recent years, is rolling out a new "memorialised accounts" feature. This update is designed to immortalise the accounts of deceased users so that they remain unchanged after their death.
Here's What We Know
A dataminer with the nickname AssembleDebug tweeted that he discovered an interesting TikTok feature in a fresh update. In version 33.9.2 of the app, he found lines such as:
“This account is memorialized. We don’t allow anyone to manage a memorialized account. However, if you think we made a mistake, report it to us.” “Memorialized account.” “This account has been memorialized. Memorialized accounts are a place to remember and celebrate someone’s life after they’ve passed away.” “Remembering.”
Tiktok is adding a "Memorialised account" feature. The strings in the newer version 33.9.2 indicate towards it.

The memorialised account will be unavailable for management, which means no one will be able to post videos or comment on them through it. This will help prevent a deceased user's account from being used, whether accessed through legal or illegal means.
It is likely that instead of memorialising an account on TikTok, it will be possible to delete it. TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, may introduce the memorialised accounts feature as early as version 33.9.2.
The concept of accounts in memorialised status is no longer new. Meta introduced this feature for Facebook and Instagram, and Microsoft did the same with LinkedIn.
