Los Angeles-based Gitai has announced a successful demonstration of its autonomous robotic arm near the International Space Station, ISS.
Here's What We Know
Gitai's CEO emphasised the importance of developing autonomous robotic systems to reduce the cost of space missions.
The autonomous robotic arm, known as S2, has successfully performed a demonstration of its capabilities near the International Space Station. The robot, which measures 1.5 metres, installed a panel outside the ISS and performed a number of tasks required for the repair and maintenance of space objects.
Gitai's plans for the future include servicing orbiting satellites and developing robotic satellites to perform various tasks in space. According to the company, they plan to start providing on-orbit services as early as 2026.
