Spain to transfer 20 more Leopard tanks to Ukraine
Spain has approved the transfer of 20 more Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
According to media reports, the transfer of the tanks has already been approved by the Interministerial Council for Trade and Control of Defence Materials and Dual-Use Technologies. Now the tanks are in conservation, so it will take some more time to repair them.
At the same time, Spanish Trade Minister Xiana Méndez emphasised: "The equipment exported by Spain is a necessary, prioritised and important weapon for Ukraine in the fight against russia; there is no doubt that Ukraine will make the best use of it to defend its national security."
In just 2 years of war, according to the published list, Spain has transferred 190 million euros worth of military aid to Ukraine. These are night vision devices, unmanned aerial vehicles, communication devices, grenade launchers, remote weapon control systems, ammunition guidance systems, howitzers, machine guns, anti-tank mines, light weapons and artillery ammunition, mortars, mortar grenades, Hawk, Mistral, Harpoon, Aspide missiles, armoured personnel carriers, 10 Leopard 2A4 battle tanks and eight patrol boats.
This list does not include the 20 Leopard 2A4s described above, so they will be added to the 10 tanks already handed over.
