A good game that could have been so much better: critics have reserved their praise for Rise of the Ronin
Samurai action game Rise of the Ronin from Team Ninja will be released tomorrow.
The game is a full PlayStation exclusive and the expectations from it are corresponding, especially since the developers were not stingy with loud promises.
Journalists of profile editions got acquainted with the action and published their reviews.
Here's What We Know
As the main selling feature of Rise of the Ronin, Team Ninja and Sony called a large open world with a huge number of additional activities, which will allow gamers to fully experience travelling in Japan of the XIX century, but it turned out that it was this decision that let the developers down.
Journalists almost unanimously believe that the large open world was the main disadvantage of the game, because it greatly prolongs the passage of Rise of the Ronin, while making it boring and monotonous.
Experts believe that if the game had been structured like Nioh (spacious semi-open locations separated from each other) - the project that led Team Ninja to popularity and success - Rise of the Ronin would have been much better.
Otherwise, this is a familiar game from Team Ninja: complex, complex, beautiful, quite technological, and this time also with historical context and non-linear story. In terms of aesthetics - it perfectly captures the flavour of Japan.
As a result, the game received average scores:
- 75 points - Opencritic, with 57% of recommendations;
- 76 points - Metacritic.
