Google will remove third-party apps and watch faces on all Fitbit smartwatches, but only in the EU
Google has announced that it will remove third-party apps and watch faces on Fitbit wearable devices in a few months.
Here's What We Know
Google's support page says that it will remove all third-party apps and watch faces from the Fitbit App Gallery this June. But this only affects users in EU countries. Google claims that "regulatory requirements" led to this decision. Most likely, the company is referring to the new Digital Marketplaces Act.
""Following a careful assessment of the impact of new regulatory requirements, we have made the decision to remove third-party apps and clocks from the Fitbit app gallery for users in the European Economic Area in June 2024. You can continue to download and install third-party apps until that date. Afterwards, you’ll have access to a selection of Fitbit and Google apps. Users in other countries will not be impacted"," the statement reads.
The following devices are affected:
- Fitbit Sense 2
- Fitbit Versa 4
- Fitbit Sense
- Fitbit Versa 3
- Fitbit Versa 2
- Fitbit Versa Lite
- Fitbit Versa
- Fitbit Ionic
It looks like the Fitbit trackers, as well as the Google Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 will not be affected by the innovation.
