Cyberpunk 2077 quest director: CD Projekt Red won't be releasing games in early access
More and more developers are releasing games in Early Access, after which they improve and modify them, including depending on the opinion and wishes of gamers.
One of the most successful examples of this concept was Baldur's Gate III: the best game of 2023 was in early access for more than three years, and during this time Larian Studios repeatedly revised many of its aspects, bringing the project to perfection.
We must admit that Belgian game designers managed to release an excellent game, but not all developers share this approach.
Here's What We Know
Leading quest designer and one of the key developers of Cyberpunk 2077 Paweł Sasko in an interview with PCGamer discussed the topic of early access and, in particular, the success of Baldur's Gate 3.
According to the Polish developer, at the time of its hit, Larian Studios occupied a niche between medium and high-budget games, and although the studio had a good reputation, it didn't have the resources to develop a full-fledged AAA game.
Considering these factors, releasing Baldur's Gate 3 in early access and gradually refining the game afterwards was the best solution.
Pavle Sasko noted that CD Projekt Red is in a completely different position and has the financial and human resources to develop and fully release even several big-budget games. Therefore, the Polish studio has no plans to release its games in early access. Sasko emphasised that CD Projekt Red strives to immediately release games of the highest possible quality and cites the Phantom Liberty expansion as an example, which received the highest marks from critics and the public.
