Cyberpunk 2077 quest director Pawel Sasko talked to PC Gamer journalists at GDC conference and shared some interesting thoughts.
Yesterday we reported why, according to Sasko, CD Projekt Red games Cyberpunk 2077 quest director: CD Projekt Red won't be releasing games in early access, now we will focus on another aspect of the interview.
Here's What We Know
One of the main features of CD Projekt Red games is extremely deep and elaborate side quests, many of which have a significant impact on the main story. This aspect was most vividly demonstrated in The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, as well as in the expansions for these games.
Pawel Sasko revealed the secret of success of additional tasks in the games of the Polish studio.
The developer said that the quest department employees (yes, CD Projekt has such a division!) receive a short list of topics on which to come up with quests, after which they must literally in a few lines of text to describe the plot and concept of the task, and in this mode quest designers generate from 5 to 20 ideas a day.
Of course, not every idea finds embodiment, only 5% of the total number is selected, but these are the most interesting, non-standard and unexpected tasks.
Pavel Sasko noted that most of the quests that gamers liked the most were created with minimal resources and did not require large budgets, which once again confirms that developers must have talent in addition to money.
