Third-party developers question the feasibility of porting their games to Xbox Series consoles

According to Chris Dring of GamesIndustry.biz, Xbox is now facing resistance from third-party developers, with developers expressing concerns about Xbox's market position during the recent GDC conference, especially given the console's declining sales, especially outside of North America. Many developers are questioning the feasibility of porting games to the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S due to the drop in sales.

Here's What We Know

In the podcast, Dring mentioned that Xbox sales in Europe are stagnating, and some large companies regret their support for the platform. Microsoft's requirement for feature parity in Xbox X/S titles is also causing problems, such as in Baldur's Gate 3 with split-screen co-op. Retailers in Europe are reportedly reducing Xbox inventory, while third-party publishers believe their efforts are better focused on PC and PlayStation 5.

Although exact figures are scarce, Microsoft admitted to the US Federal Trade Commission in June 2023 that it had "lost the console wars", ranking third in the market.
