It's official: Embracer Group has sold Gearbox Entertainment - the creator of Borderlands

Embracer Group Holding continues to sell off its assets.

In mid-March, the Swedish company It's official: Embracer Group sold the assets of Saber Interactive and left Russia completely to private investors. The amount of the deal was $247 million.

Today Embracer officially confirmed another major deal.

Here's What We Know

The holding company confirmed that it is selling Gearbox Entertainment.

The buyer of the company became one of the largest game publishers - Take-Two Interactive.

The amount of the deal is equal to $460 million, and they plan to complete it in April-June 2024.

Take-Two will receive the following assets:

  • Gearbox Software (Frisco, Texas);
  • Gearbox Montreal;
  • Gearbox Studio Quebec;
  • Borderlands and Tiny Tinaʼs Wonderlands franchises;
  • Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms and Duke Nukem franchises.

In turn, Embracer Group will retain control of Gearbox Publishing San Francisco, as well as the rights to the Remnant franchise, Hyper Light Breaker and certain unannounced projects. The company will be renamed.

Cryptic Studios (Neverwinter Online and Star Trek Online), Lost Boys Interactive and Captured Dimensions will remain under Embracer's control.
