Microsoft and OpenAI team up to create $100 billion Stargate supercomputer
Microsoft and OpenAI continue their partnership and plan to create a huge supercomputer "Stargate" with artificial intelligence.
Here's What We Know
The Stargate project envisages the creation of the largest data centre in the United States, which will be able to accommodate millions of advanced artificial intelligence chips. This centre will be one of five artificial intelligence facilities that the partners plan to develop over the next six years.
"Stargate should be operational by 2028. Microsoft is likely to fund a significant part of the project, estimated at $100 billion.
In addition, Microsoft and OpenAI are considering potential chip suppliers such as Nvidia and AMD, as well as exploring the possibility of producing their own hardware. The design may require innovative solutions for cooling and ensuring the efficiency of computing loads.
The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, which began in 2019, has already brought several significant achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, including the creation of supercomputing systems and the development of advanced AI technologies.
Microsoft plans to expand its existing data centres and release new versions of OpenAI's AI models.
