SK Hynix launches the project: World's largest chip fab worth over $90 billion
SK Hynix, Samsung's main competitor and one of the world's largest memory manufacturers, has launched its ambitious plan to build the world's largest chip fab.

The Yongin Semiconductor Cluster in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, will consist of four massive blocks. The first of them, which is expected to be the world's largest three-storey fab, is already in the planning process and is expected to start construction in March 2025.
According to the Korea Economic Daily, the project is worth more than 120 trillion won (about $90.7 billion) and is scheduled to be completed by 2046.
The government's support is key to the implementation of this ambitious project. The Minister of Commerce has promised government support for the Korean chip industry.
SK Hynix's plans for the future are not limited to building the largest chip fab in the world. The company also plans to invest $4 billion to establish an advanced chip packaging plant in West Lafayette, Indiana.
