New technology will allow wind turbines to be built independently
WindSpider has announced the introduction of a technology that could allow wind turbines to build themselves.
Here's What We Know
The new WindSpider crane, which was developed in collaboration with Leirvik, is a major step towards autonomous wind turbine construction and changes approaches to the production and operation of wind power plants.
Traditionally, wind turbines have required significant construction efforts, including the use of cranes to lift large components. The WindSpider crane, however, uses the turbine tower itself to lift the various parts of the installation into place. The WindSpider eliminates the need for large amounts of labour and fuel to operate the crane.
This innovative technology not only simplifies the construction process, but also provides easier access for maintenance, replacement and decommissioning of wind turbines. In addition, the WindSpider crane can be easily scaled up to 1500 tonnes with no height restrictions.
The development of autonomous wind turbine construction systems can also help reduce dependence on fossil fuels, contribute to environmental conservation and combat climate change.
