Meta stops supporting the original Oculus Quest headset

Meta has announced that it will stop supporting the original Oculus Quest headset in its Quest Store and App Labs app store starting in May.

Here's What We Know

The original Oculus Quest headset was hailed as a milestone in the development of virtual reality when it was released in 2019. However, with the release of the more powerful and advanced Quest 2 in October 2020, support for the first model has gradually fallen by the wayside.

This latest announcement regarding the end of Quest 1 support is not unexpected. Last January, Meta announced plans to stop developing features for the headset and promised to provide only critical software updates until 2024.

Now, with the release of new software versions for the headset, Oculus Quest 1 remains on v50, while newer headsets already have the well-known v63.

For those who are still using the original Oculus Quest headset, this means that the latest and most advanced apps coming to the store will no longer be compatible with their device. Therefore, users may decide to upgrade to more modern models or continue to use their headset with the apps that are already installed.
