British company to send special demining equipment to Ukraine
The UK Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Pearson Engineering to supply the Armed Forces of Ukraine with demining equipment.
Here's What We Know
The contract provides for the supply of multi-purpose vehicle interfaces for attaching self-protection mine ploughs. They will allow armoured vehicles to be equipped with a wide range of ground equipment necessary to remove other natural and artificial obstacles.
The deal is part of the £100 million ($125 million) International Fund for Ukraine. It is managed by the UK to provide maintenance and manoeuvre support to the Ukrainian military.
According to Pearson Engineering, the MW370 remote-controlled mine changers and Barbadian Mine Rollers have already arrived in Ukraine. Pearson and Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft also signed a contract with the German government in 2023 to supply Ukraine with ploughs for mine opening.
According to some estimates, 40% of Ukraine's territory is covered with mines, making it potentially the most heavily mined country in the world. Therefore, the supply of this type of equipment is essential.
