Qualcomm is testing a second ARM SoC for Windows - the Snapdragon X Plus
Qualcomm, a leading microchip maker, is internally testing at least two versions of the new Snapdragon X Plus chip.
Here's What We Know
The chips, labelled with internal ID numbers X1P44100 and X1P46100, are based on the same SC8350 chip, which is also used in the more powerful 12-core Snapdragon X Elite SC8380. In Qualcomm's benchmarks from February, the Snapdragon X Plus is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of flash storage with UFS 4.0 connectivity. In addition, it also features the Snapdragon X65 5G modem, allowing the chip to access mobile internet from anywhere.
The new chip is likely to feature ten rather than twelve processing cores as in the Snapdragon X Elite and is expected to hit the market as an addition to the Elite. A feature of the new Snapdragon X series chips are Oryon processors, based on Phoenix cores developed by startup Nuvia, which was acquired by Qualcomm. These are custom cores that combine to deliver a significant performance boost, closing the gap with Apple's M series.
