The next Larian Studios game will also be released in early access first

Baldur's Gate III became a huge hit after its release from early access, pushing Larian into the spotlight and even taking over Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Here's What We Know

Speaking to Game File , Larian's publishing director, Micheal Douse, hinted at the studio's preference for maintaining its flexible independence rather than going public. He likened large public companies to bulky oil tankers, contrasting them with Larian's ability to adapt quickly to challenges. Daus emphasised the importance of flexibility in creating the game they envisioned - a luxury that can be compromised in a large public company.

While the final decision rests with Larian CEO Swen Vincke, Daus noted that the studio's current trajectory does not align with going public, especially as they consider their next projects beyond Baldur's Gate.

Early access, according to Daus, has become indispensable for community engagement and improving game cycles, and this strategy is likely to continue in their future projects. Daus sees early access as a way to reduce the risk associated with releasing AAA games, allowing for real-time dialogue with players and influence on development
