Sea of Thieves release on PlayStation 5 'will be a key' test for whether more Xbox games will come to PlayStation and Switch
Since the first months of 2024, Microsoft has begun to expand the presence of its exclusives on other platforms: it has released Hi-Fi Rush on PlayStation 5, and Pentiment and Grounded on both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Seas of Thieves will also join this list, releasing on PlayStation 5 later this month.
Here's What We Know
According to a report by The Verge's Tom Warren, Microsoft is considering the launch of Sea of Thieves on PS5 as an important test to determine the viability of bringing more Xbox-exclusive titles to PlayStation and Switch. Although there have been no official announcements other than Sea of Thieves, reports suggest that Microsoft is evaluating the possibility of bringing other games from independent developers to competitors' consoles.
Previous leaks suggested that Microsoft could eventually port "most" of its games. Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, hinted at the possibility of multi-platform releases of flagship Xbox games, emphasising the industry's openness to such steps.
Prior to the official announcement of multiplatform releases of certain games, there were leaks that other Xbox titles, including Starfield, Gears of War, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, are being considered for release on other consoles.
