Apple will allow the use of used parts for iPhone repair
Later this year, Apple will open up access to used iPhone repair parts to both its customers and independent repair shops. This step is intended to make repairs more affordable and promote sustainable use of resources, minimising the negative impact on the environment.
Here's What We Know
According to John Ternus, Senior Director of Hardware at Apple, this initiative fits into the company's strategy to develop durable products and reduce environmental damage. At the same time, used parts will meet the same quality and safety standards as new ones.
However, at the same time, Apple will increase security measures to avoid possible theft and unauthorised replacement of parts. The Activation Lock feature will be extended to iPhone parts to prevent them from being used in theft. Users will be able to check the origin of spare parts through a special tab in iOS settings.
